Background Music, Cortana confirmed for Xbox One

Xbox head Phil Spencer recently confirmed that Background Music and Cortana will be included in the recently announced Xbox One Anniversary update coming this summer.

Background Music was a feature previously introduced in the Xbox 360 and will allow gamers to listen to their music selection as they play. Working in a similar way to the feature available on the Playstation 4 with Sony’s new partnership with Streaming mogul Spotify.

At the moment there is no confirmation if Microsoft will also partner with Spotify in the future. It is more likely however that Background music would run similar to or even depend on Microsoft’s Groove Music program.

Secondly, alongside background music, Microsoft will also be bringing the iconic Windows 10 assistant Cortana to the Xbox Platform. Xbox fans across the globe will recognize Cortana as the passionate AI side kick to Master Chief in the Halo series.Supposedly, Cortana allows you to use voice commands in a more natural way of speaking and offers a much larger selection of commands that your Xbox will understand, You will need a Kinect 2.0 sensor in order to interact with Cortana.

Last but certainly not least, Spencer teased that even more features, including turning your console into a Development kit will be announced at this Years E3 conference, suggesting that the Anniversary update will be coming to the console sometime after June.
